One dead, one critical in downtown fight

An argument between two men early Saturday morning led to one man being fatally shot while another was critically wounded from being stabbed, Las Vegas police said.

Authorities did not release the identities of either man.

Homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said the incident occurred about 4:15 a.m. on the 400 block of E. Fremont St., near Fitzgeralds. He said both men, who appeared to be in their 20s, had been drinking.

They got into an argument and one man began stabbing the other man. Roberts said the man who was getting stabbed then pulled out a gun and fatally shot the man with the knife.

Roberts said the man who survived is in "very, very critical" condition at the University Medical Center. If the man survives, police will likely submit the case to the district attorney's office for possible charges.
