ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER?
How cool is it to have the golf course all to yourself?
Casey Bourque got to experience that feeling this morning as the last player to make the cut Friday was the first to tee off today as the third round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open got under way at TPC Summerlin.
Because there was an odd number of players making the cut — 81 — Bourque didn’t have a playing partner today when he teed off at 7 a.m.
Bourque was 2-under through 15. Then he bogeyed Nos. 16 and 17 to fall back to even for the day, which is where he finished.
Not a good effort given the circumstances. Still, no matter what happens the rest of the way, he’ll earn a check. He’s guaranteed a minimum of $7,800 for having survived the cut.
FAST START
Bill Haas came charging out of the gate for his third round, starting with four consecutive birdies to move to 12-under. The streak ended when he had to settle for par at the par-3 No. 5. He has got a heckuva round working and, if he can keep it up, we’re looking at one of the really low scores of the day.
Joe Durant also started fast with four birdies over his first six holes. He’s also 4-under so far.
NOBODY AT THE HILL
It was empty inside the tent at “The Hill” at 10 a.m. despite the fact eight college football games were on TV. But things figured to pick up in a couple of hours. It should be a popular place for fans trying to follow their bets.
