One man arrested in fake firefighter case

Las Vegas police have arrested one of the two people suspected of dressing up as firefighters and stealing a flat-screen television from an apartment complex workout room.

Jay Campanile, 48, was booked in the Clark County Detention Center on Friday on charges of burglary, grand larceny and impersonating an officer, jail records show.

According to his arrest report, Campanile, along with 26-year-old William Moyer, went into the Cambridge Park Towers on Jan. 9 wearing Clark County Fire Department T-shirts. They went into the workout room and took a 37-inch Dynex LCD television, the report states.

Campanile, a former resident of the apartments, had previously been questioned by police for having an EMT badge in his possession, according to the arrest report. His sister told detectives he had a fascination with fire department paraphernalia.

Moyer has not been arrested. Anybody with information on his whereabouts are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
