One person dead, three in custody after shooting

An altercation outside an apartment complex near Lake Mead and Jones boulevards turned deadly this morning when, following a foot chase, an unidentified male shot and killed another on the street.

A separate officer-involved shooting related to the incident also occurred this morning at the apartment complex, but no one was injured, Las Vegas police said.

In the first incident, two males showed up at the apartment complex at 1951 N. Jones shortly before 11 a.m. looking for a third male, police said. They found him and chased him west along Lake Mead to Arpa Way. One of the two males then fatally shot the victim, Las Vegas police Capt. Randy Montandon said.

The two males are in custody.

Meanwhile, detectives with Metropolitan Police Department's gang unit had arrived at the apartment complex and began questioning another male about the earlier altercation. The male fled and officers gave chase. The male was in possession of a handgun, police said.

An officer fired one round, which missed. The person being questioned then surrendered and was taken into custody.

Any relationship between the three had not been determined by this afternoon.

The ages and identities of those involved were not released.
