One person dies when car hits pole, catches fire

One person died after the vehicle he was driving struck a pole and caught fire at North Buffalo Drive and Cielo Vista Avenue, near Vegas Drive, late Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old driver of a 1994 GMC Suburban drove over the center median while northbound on Buffalo, crossed the opposing traffic lanes and hit a traffic signal pole about 10:40 p.m, according to Las Vegas police.

The vehicle caught on fire, according to the Las Vegas fire department.

The driver was alone in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

This was the 81st traffic related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2013.
