Paramedic suffers broken leg when ambulance is rear-ended

A paramedic suffered a broken leg when her ambulance was rear-ended by another vehicle near Rainbow Boulevard and Spring Valley Parkway early Monday.

The driver of the second vehicle was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of felony driving under the influence, Las Vegas police said.

The paramedic had stopped near the intersection to help a stranded motorist around 5:30 a.m. She was returning to the passenger side of the ambulance when the crash occurred, police Lt. L. Chavez said.

She was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of the nonlife-threatening injury. Chavez said the paramedic was halfway in the ambulance when the vehicle hit from behind.

No one else was injured, police said. Identities of the driver and others were not released by police.
