Parent with gun arrested at high school
A parent of a Foothill High School student was arrested Thursday for pointing an unloaded gun at two male students he suspected had stolen his son's iPod.
Orlando Alaoen, 49, was arrested at the Henderson campus about 11 a.m. after two students told police officers the man had pointed a gun at them in the school's parking lot, said Lt. Ken Young, a spokesman for school district police.
Young said Alaoen was stopped by bike officers at the school while he was in his pickup in the school's parking lot. District officers then found and confiscated a pistol.
Alaoen was arrested and charged with aiming a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon on campus.
Young said the students who had the gun pointed at them hadn't stolen the iPod.
"He decided he would take things in his own hands," Young said. "The outcome would have been much better had he alerted the proper authorities."
Thursday marked the last day of class for a majority of schools in the district.
Young said more than 50 guns have been confiscated on school grounds this year.
