Parents in North Las Vegas can register kids for program

North Las Vegas city officials say parents can still register their children for a before- and after-school recreation program that kicks off on the first day of school Monday.

City staffers say the Safekey program will not be affected by potential closures of two city-run recreational centers. The closures were approved by the City Council as a way to ease a budget shortfall. Safekey consists of an activity or game period, sports, arts and crafts, and special events.

Parents can register online at www.cityofnorthlasvegas.com or at the Neighborhood Recreation Center on Bruce Street or at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center on Allen Lane.

For more information on the program, call (702) 633-1608.
