Parish to open in southwest valley

The Diocese of Las Vegas has announced the establishment of a new parish in the southwest. The parish, which will be named Holy Spirit Catholic Church, will be at the intersection of Russell Road and Mesa Park Drive, directly adjacent to the new campus of Bishop Gorman High School.

The Rev. Bill Kenny, who will retain his duties at Christ the King Catholic Community, will be pastor. He will be assisted by the Rev. Ed Wagner, chaplain at Bishop Gorman, and the Rev. John Kovalcin, a religion teacher at the school.

Services will begin this weekend at different facilities on the Bishop Gorman campus. Evening vigil will be at 4 p.m. today and there will be Masses at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.
