Pedestrian killed by vehicle appeared to be jaywalking

A pedestrian was killed Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in the eastern valley.

Las Vegas police said the pedestrian, whose age and gender were not released, was crossing Boulder Highway south of Mayorga Street and was struck by a 2009 Kia Spectra driven by Wayne Brown, 51, of Carson, Calif.

The pedestrian died at the scene. Police said the pedestrian appeared to be jaywalking.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, police said.

It was the 44th traffic fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction this year.
