Phoenix man dies as pickup hits big rig

A Phoenix resident was killed Tuesday when a pickup hit a big rig on U.S. Highway 93 about 25 miles south of the Hoover Dam bypass bridge linking Nevada with northwest Arizona.

Michael Angelo Bruno lost control of his 2003 Chevrolet pickup when its right front tire blew out about 2 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The pickup struck a disabled 18-wheeler parked along the side of the highway.

Bruno, 54, was killed. Four other adults in the pickup were injured. The driver of the tractor-trailer rig was not hurt.

Traffic was disrupted for more than two hours, police said.
