Police ID remains found at Red Rock Canyon

The bones found last week at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area were identified as the remains of John Rosholt III, 54, of Scottsdale, Ariz., the Clark County coroner's office said Thursday.

The office has not determined Rosholt's cause and manner of death.

The bones, identified by police as possibly being a spine, were spotted about
2:30 p.m. Nov. 11 by at least one climber on a ledge at Black Velvet Canyon.

According to an article in the East Valley Tribune, Rosholt went missing in the winter of 2004. He was known as an avid rock climber in Scottsdale, the article said.

Las Vegas police located Rosholt's Toyota 4Runner in late April 2005 in a parking lot at the Silverton hotel-casino, the Arizona newspaper said. The report said Scottsdale police probed his financial records and determined that they were not tampered with .
