The Las Vegas police officer involved in a shooting this weekend that sent a man to the hospital was identified Monday as 38-year-old Gregory Munson.
Munson, who has been with the department for nearly 10 years, fired his gun Saturday at 38-year-old Todd Crecelius of Las Vegas. Crecelius, whose injuries were not life threatening, has been charged with three counts of assault on an officer with a deadly weapon.
The shooting occurred Saturday about 9:15 a.m. at the Riviera Vegas Mobile Home Park, 2083 Palm St., near Fremont Street and Sahara Avenue.
Police said they were called to the park to respond to a fight. Upon arrival, police met a victim with blood on his face. They did not release the name of the fight victim.
Police determined Crecelius had gone to the victim's trailer looking for a woman. Police then found Crecelius in his mother's trailer in the same park.
Crecelius began throwing objects at police. One officer was hit in the head. Police unsuccessfully tried to subdue Crecelius with a Taser, they said.
Crecelius then lunged at police with two knives and was shot in the abdomen by Munson.
