Police officer shoots, wounds suspect

A police officer shot a man in the lower leg Wednesday after he threatened another man with a bat at a west valley apartment complex, Las Vegas police said.

Police responded to 911 calls about a domestic disturbance shortly before 2 p.m. at the Summerhill Pointe Apartments, on Sahara Avenue near Fort Apache Road, Las Vegas police said.

When an officer arrived, residents told police that a man had been fighting with a woman and then had fought with another resident of the complex who had defended the woman.

Las Vegas police Capt. Randy Montandon said residents heard the man say he was going inside his apartment to get a gun.

When police found the man, he was carrying a baseball bat, Montandon said. Police said they ordered the man to get on the ground, but he did not respond.

The man, carrying the bat, then approached a resident of the complex. That is when an officer shot the man, Montandon said.

But the altercation did not end with the shooting.

"After being shot, the suspect then got to his feet again, at which point he continued his attack, at which time he was tasered by other officers," Montandon said.

The man was subdued after being hit by Tasers, he said.

Police did not release the name of the suspect or what charges he might face. He was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon, Montandon said.
