Nevada Assemblyman Hogan suffers massive stroke

Retiring Assemblyman Joe Hogan, D-Las Vegas, was hospitalized after suffering a massive stroke while house hunting in the Washington, D.C., area, his legislative attache said Friday.

Hogan, 77, recently had surgery to replace a heart valve. He’s also in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and had two minor strokes several years ago, said Gregory Martin, the attache.

Hogan was in the intensive care unit Friday at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va. He had the stroke on Tuesday, causing severe impairment, according to Martin, who said he has been “unresponsive” ever since.

“It does not look like he’s going to come out of it,” Martin said.

First elected in 2004, Hogan decided not to run for re-election this year after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
