Porn star does Vegas again
August 14, 2009 - 9:00 pm
Mayor Oscar Goodman once gave a key to the city to Ron Jeremy, who proudly keeps it on display in his house. But the key is only 6 inches, Jeremy tells me and laughs.
Jeremy is in Las Vegas again this weekend. This time he's making music.
Jeremy, who grew up on piano and violin, will play a little harmonica introduction for Sin City Sinners at Boulder Station tonight (10 p.m., free) and at Green Valley Ranch on Saturday (11 p.m., free).
Jeremy has shot many films in Vegas. One time, he says, he and a crew showed up at a porn house only to discover someone hadn't paid the rent; it was occupied by someone else.
The director quickly moved cast and crew to a sandy desert location.
"I filmed two movies in the desert" that day, Jeremy says.
He did not get a sunburn, and it wasn't a sweaty set; it was winter, fortunately.
On other Vegas trips, Jeremy hung with Rodney Dangerfield. He took Dangerfield to one porn-related event here that was so guy-heavy, Dangerfield complained there were eight men for every man.
Jeremy remains the most mainstreamed porn legend of all time, not just consulting on "91/2 weeks" and "Boogie Nights" but appearing in music videos, the TV show "The Surreal Life" and a film, this year's "Crank: High Voltage," in addition to penning "Ron Jeremy: The Hardest (Working) Man in Showbiz."
Jeremy spent his early adulthood in the original Vegas of sorts: the comedian-rich Catskills. Jeremy was a waiter then. And he had the "game" to bed women whose husbands stayed in New York City to have affairs.
As a result, Jeremy's "number" was more than 100 women by the time he aged from 16 to 25. Then he got into porn. His number now is somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000, comparable with KISS' Gene Simmons, he says.
But he stresses that Simmons always gets pretty women, whereas Jeremy's prettiest women are on set.
"When I'm not working," he jokes, "I get women who look like Gene Simmons."
