Power outage darkens four Strip resorts

Four Strip resorts were without power for about 90 minutes Tuesday night because of a suspected equipment failure, Nevada Power representatives said.

The outage occurred about 8 p.m., affecting the Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Four Seasons Hotel.

Nevada Power crews had restored electricity by 9:30 p.m., the company said, but the precise cause of the outage was unknown late Tuesday.

Some people were stuck in elevators during the outage, but no injuries were reported, MGM Mirage spokeswoman Yvette Monet said. Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison told The Associated Press that firefighters and hotel engineers worked to rescue people trapped in elevators.

The casinos operated using backup generators until the power was restored, Monet said.
