Athletes sought for 2013 henderson senior games

Seniors are invited to participate in a friendly competition with a blend of sporting and social events for athletes of all skill levels 50 or older.

The 2013 Henderson Senior Games are scheduled for April 6-28 at a variety of Henderson locations including recreation centers, parks and schools.

Sports include table tennis, tennis, basketball skills, track and field, bowling, volleyball and pickleball.

Registration is open through March 15 and is $15 per person. There is also a $3-$5 cost per event.

aarp provides free tax form preparation for seniors

Registration has begun for free tax form preparation for seniors by AARP at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

Income restrictions apply.

Valentine's day social scheduled

Dress in red and pink and attend a Valentine's Day social at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Doolittle Senior Center, 1930 N. J St.

OUTING for seniors slated
at Atomic Testing museum

Temple Beth Sholom's Active Adults 55-plus group plans an outing at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 19 to the National Atomic Testing Museum, 755 E. Flamingo Road.

A private guide will be provided for a tour of the museum. And there is a self-guided tour of the Area 51 exhibit.

A special discount rate of $16 per person is available.

Memoir-writing classes slated

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's Life Stories Nevada program plans free four-week memoir-writing classes for seniors.

Instructors help would-be memoirists sort through their memories and organize how they want to tell their story. Sessions are slated for:

n 10 to 11:30 a.m. Fridays through Feb. 22 at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Paradise campus, 851 E. Tropicana Ave.;

n 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays March 8-29 at the Las Vegas FamilySearch Library, 509 S. Ninth St.;

n 10 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays April 8-29 at Temple Beth Sholom, 10700 Havenwood Lane;

n 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays May 2-23 at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

AARP safe driving course planned

Get some tips on driving safely during AARP's Safe Driving Course planned for 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave.

The cost is $12 for AARP members or $14 for nonmembers.

Bring a drink and a snack or lunch.

A certificate will be given after the four-hour course.
