Property tax bills likely to be smaller this year
Property owners will begin receiving tax bills this week, though they are likely to be smaller than in 2008.
Taxes on more than half of Clark County's 730,000 parcels will be lower this fiscal year than last year, in large part because of depreciating values.
Property taxes totaled $2.2 billion this year, down from $2.3 billion last year, even though 5,300 parcels were added to the rolls.
Taxes are due on the third Monday in August, but may be paid in four installments if the taxes exceed $100.
The due dates would be Aug. 17, Oct. 5, Jan. 4, 2010, and March 1, 2010.
Many taxpayers will receive a "statement of tax distribution" instead of a tax bill with payment coupons.
This means that a mortgage company has requested the tax bill information for the property.
If you don't receive a tax bill or distribution statement, you may have bought the property recently or failed to notify the Clark County Treasurer's office of an address change.
