Public input sought on solar project
Public comments will be accepted through Nov. 24 on plans to construct a second solar photo voltaic system at Nellis Air Force Base.
Nellis has been using a 14.2 megawatt solar array on 140 acres for three years on the western side of the base, in what has been touted as the largest renewable-energy project in the Air Force.
A draft environmental assessment has called for building another array on 160 acres of Air Force property on the southwest corner of the base in 2012. The project, by NV Energy, would generate up to 18 megawatts of direct current, or 10 to 15 megawatts of alternating current.
Written comments on the proposed project should be submitted to Charles Ramey, 99 ABW/PA, 4430 Grissom Ave. Suite 107, Nellis Air Force Base, NV 89191.
Another federal agency, the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration, will hold a public meeting Wednesday to discuss plans for a solar demonstration project at the Nevada National Security Site.
Officials from the Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy will be available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Frank Rogers Auditorium, 755 E. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas to discuss the solar demonstration project.
A second meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Amargosa Community Center in Amargosa Valley.
