Queing up for the iPhone 4
I stopped by three stores early today to see how many iPhone 4 customers were camping out. At 5:40 a.m. only three people waited outside the doors at the Best Buy store in the Best in the West shopping center at Lake Mead and Rainbow. Each said they were upgrading from earlier models and they were assured they would receive an iPhone 4 on a walk-in basis, as none had reservations.
It was a differernt story at the Best Buy in Summerlin, 10950 W Charleston Blvd. Just two men were waiting outside, neither customers. The men said they were workers, and that no iPhones would be available today. They speculated sales would begin on June 29. Interesting.
There were 10 people in liine outside the AT&T store in the Boca Park shopping center, 920 S Rampart Blvd just before 6 a.m. They all had preordered the phone. The AT& T website and support team on Facebook confirmed that walk-up sales would start on June 29. Here's the statement on the site:
"AT&T is on track to deliver iPhone 4 to customers who pre-ordered the device on June 15. We look forward to offering iPhone 4 to all other customers beginning Tuesday, June 29, when it goes on sale in all AT&T sales channels."
I haven't checked any othe three Apple stores in Las Vegas, but I'm seeing customers on Twitter and Facebook in other cities who preordered on June 15 are getting the iPhone 4 with relative ease. Some are already posting videos and updating their status on the social networking sites with the new hardware.
I plan to stop by more retail locations later today to see how things are going. I'm prepared to wait for the day one dust to settle before picking up a new iPhone.
I invite you to share your iPhone 4 stories here.
