Reid: Wife to make ‘full recovery’
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Harry Reid said Monday his wife, Landra, will make "a full recovery" from injuries suffered in a violent car crash last week.
"It won't be tomorrow or the next day, but she will be back on her feet as soon as she can," said Reid, D-Nev. "She is the strongest and most selfless person I know. If anyone can recover it is she."
The Senate majority leader gave an update in brief remarks when he opened the Senate session.
Landra Reid was released from Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., on Sunday, three days after being admitted following the accident.
She underwent surgery on Friday to stabilize a fracture in her neck. Doctors said she also broke a bone in her back and suffered a broken nose.
"It really was a close call, but we are grateful it wasn't worse," Reid said.
He said he was grateful for the e-mails and other messages of support from the Senate and elsewhere.
Landra Reid was taken to the hospital on Thursday after the minivan in which she was riding was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 about 15 miles south of Washington. The Reids' daughter, Lana Barringer, was driving the van, and her injuries were less severe.
