Remains of person found in car

Human remains were found late Wednesday in the back of a car at a Wal-Mart near McCarran International Airport.

Las Vegas police homicide detectives are investigating the discovery.

Sgt. Russ Shoemaker said the Ford Taurus had been sitting in the parking lot for several days.

Security at the store, at 6005 S. Eastern Ave., near Sunset Road, called police after detecting a foul odor coming from the vehicle about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The car was being used by a woman who was reported missing by her family on July 25, Shoemaker said. He said investigators have not determined whether the person inside is male or female. The cause of death is unknown.
