Reno police investigating death of pedestrian on I-80

RENO - Reno police say a pedestrian is dead after running onto Interstate 80 at night and being struck by an off-duty Nevada Highway Patrol employee.

Troopers responded to reports of a crash about 8 p.m. Monday near the Rock Boulevard and Nugget Avenue exit.

Authorities say the driver was eastbound on the interstate when the male pedestrian stepped into the roadway and was hit.

Reno police are investigating the crash because it involved an NHP employee.

Police have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian.
