Republicans register more voters than Democrats

CARSON CITY -- Republicans registered more Nevada voters in January than Democrats, according to new figures released Thursday by the secretary of state's office.

The figures show Republicans increased their number of active voters by 4,465, while the Democrats had a gain of 1,202.

As of Jan. 31, there were 447,881 active Democrat voters. Active Republican voters totaled 400,310.

More than 172,000 Nevada voters are registered as nonpartisan.
