Roads reopen after gas leak

Traffic flow has resumed on Tropicana and Eastern avenues after a gas leak blocked the roads for a few hours today.

The leak was located on Eastern near an Office Max store. Traffic was narrowed to one lane in that area just south of Tropicana.

Gas coming up from storm drains was reported at 8:20 a.m. on Reno Avenue, west of Eastern. Traffic on Eastern from Russell Road to Tropicana and all side streets in the area was halted while Southwest Gas workers searched for the leak.

Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison said the roads were closed and 14 children and four adults were evacuated from the Cinderella Careskool, 5120 S. Eastern, as a precaution.

The people at the day-care center were taken to a nearby elementary school.

Fire department officials said there was no immediate threat to people in the area.
