Ross re-elected to Las Vegas council; Trowbridge, Anthony in lead in Ward 4
April 7, 2009 - 9:19 pm
Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross was re-elected today in Ward 6, while two candidates for the open Ward 4 seat placed themselves well ahead of the others in the race.
In complete but unofficial returns, Ross had 55 percent of the vote to 45 percent for his challenger, Jennifer L. Taylor.
Six candidates competed to replace former Councilman Larry Brown in Ward 4. With 65 of 69 precincts reporting, Glenn Trowbridge was holding steady at 45 percent, while Stavros Anthony had 37.7 percent.
If no candidate gets a majority in the primary, the top two vote-getters advance to the general election June 2.
In the only contested Las Vegas municipal judge race, Cynthia Leung had a commanding lead in Department 1 with 98 percent of precincts reporting. She had 65 percent of the vote, with two challengers splitting the remaining votes about evenly.
Ward 2 Councilman Steve Wolfson was also up for re-election this year, but was not on the ballot because he had no opponent. Two other municipal judges also were unopposed and therefore named winners in their contests.
