RUTH BROWN TRIBUTE TONIGHT AT BOOTLEGGER

An all-star entertainment lineup will help celebrate the life of rhythm and blues legend Ruth Brown tonight at Bootlegger Bistro.
Brown, who won a Grammy and a Tony award, was a regular at the Bootlegger in her later years. She died at age 78 on Nov. 17, 2006 in Henderson.
Her son Ronnie McPhatter and her original Bootlegger band will be among a group of performers that includes Wendy Edmead of the Pointer Sisters, Sonny Turner of The Platters, and Sonny Charles of The Checkmates. Also performing will be local personality Dennis Bono, Regi Brown, R&B singer-saxophonist Jimmy Castor,and lounge star Earl Turner.
Brown won her Tony in 1989 for her performance in the Broadway hit "Black and Blue," and she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on her 65th birthday in 1993.
A $5 donation will be charged. All proceeds will go to The Society of Singers.
