Sandoval to address budget plan in TV speech

CARSON CITY -- Gov. Brian Sandoval on Tuesday will deliver a televised speech about the economy, the state budget process and spending proposal in the Legislature, his office said Friday.

Sandoval, a Republican, is seeking to enact a budget for 2011-13 without increasing taxes or fees, a proposal opposed by Democrats who are in the majority in both houses of the Legislature.

The speech will come one day after the state's Economic Forum, the group that makes official budget projections, is expected to announce revenue from existing sources will be at least slightly higher than projected.

The address will be Sandoval's first major televised speech since his State of the State address and probably will be a pitch to voters to support his budget plan.

It comes on the 86th day of the 120-day legislative session, much of which has been devoted to Democrats highlighting Sandoval's proposed cuts to education and social services -- cuts that they say are too drastic.

His speech is scheduled for 6 p.m.
