School lunch prices may go up

The Clark County School Board considered a proposal to increase the cost of school lunch and breakfast by 25 cents but did not take action Thursday.

Charles Anderson, the director of food services, said the fee increases are necessary to offset increases of 14 percent in food-related costs. Food services, which is self-supporting, must also replenish its depleted reserves, he said.

Under his proposal, the cost of an elementary school breakfast would increase to $1.25, a middle school breakfast would increase to $1.50 and a high school breakfast would be $1.50. The cost of lunch for elementary students would be $1.75.

Lunch prices for middle school and high school students would remain $3.

Low-income students who qualify for free or reduced-cost lunches would not be affected.
