Scout dies after jumping from boulder in Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A 15-year-old Boy Scout from Las Vegas is dead after he collapsed while hiking in West Clear Creek Canyon south of Flagstaff.

It happened Saturday morning. The Coconino County Sheriff's Office says the teen was hiking with two other Scouts and two Scout leaders when he jumped 2 to 3 feet off of a boulder and landed on his feet. He then looked back at another Scout and collapsed.

One of the Scout leaders called 911 while the rest of the group performed CPR. The teen was dead when emergency responders arrived.

The cause of death has not been determined, but sheriff's spokesman Gerry Blair says detectives do not suspect foul play.

The teen's body has been taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy will be performed this week. His name has not been released.
