Second man arrested in murder-for-hire plot

Las Vegas police arrested Richard Pearson, 39, Wednesday as the second man in an attempted murder plot.

On Nov. 14, Robert Bessey, 49, was shot in the neck while driving south on Interstate 15 near the Valley of Fire. Detectives said Bessey was divorcing his spouse and, when finalized, a "substantial" life insurance policy would end.

Pearson was booked at the Clark County Detention Center and faces charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm and violation of conditions of parole.

Bessey's adopted son, Michael Bessey, was arrested and booked last month on charges of attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon.
