Service to honor officer killed in collision

Daniel Leach, the Las Vegas police corrections officer who died in a vehicle accident Nov. 21, will be honored during a candlelight memorial service on Saturday in Laughlin.

The event will be held at the Laughlin Regional Government Center starting at 7 p.m.

Las Vegas police Lt. Brian Evans said public attendance is welcome.

He said Leach, 49, had worked at the Metropolitan Police Department's Laughlin Substation/Tucker Holding Facility for 12 years.

Leach died when the prisoner transport van he was driving collided at 5:45 a.m. with a dump truck on U.S. Highway 95 near Searchlight.
