Session will help seekers of federal stimulus funds

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., will host a seminar in Las Vegas this month to connect local businesses, governments and other groups with funds from the federal stimulus bill.

The April 16 event will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mandalay Bay.

Forty federal and state agencies have been invited, and Reid's staff will be there to answer questions, according to the senator's office. Those who want to attend should register at the senator's Web site, reid.senate.gov, as soon as possible.

Reid's office also has issued a guide to funds provided in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009; it too is available on the Web site.

"We want to make it as simple and straightforward as possible for every Nevadan to have the opportunity to take part in this money," Reid said in a statement. "There are hundreds of programs included in the economic recovery package, and this seminar will make it easier to get the funding for them into the hands of those who need it quicker and more efficiently."

Nevada received about $1.5 billion in direct aid in the bill that passed in February.
