Sewer rate reduction coming for Clark County

Clark County sewer customers will get a 4 percent reduction in their bills, county commissioners decided Tuesday.

The reduction for residential and commercial customers is effective July 1. It comes after a review of the Clark County Water Reclamation District’s financial plan and its $700 million capital plan.

For residential customers, the rate will drop from $230.30 annually to $221.09.

Commissioners took the action in their role as the Board of Trustees for the reclamation district.

“This rate reduction is the result of maintaining needed investments in the infrastructure while still producing a savings for the residential and commercial ratepayers,” Commissioner Larry Brown, chairman of the district’s Board of Trustees, said in a statement.

The county’s analysis of operating and capital budgets found that a 4 percent cut is sustainable for the next five years. That is realistic while maintaining capital spending of more than $700 million, the county found in its analysis.

The district has 9,094 commercial customers and 231,758 residential customers.

The county has seven treatment facilities and treats and collects more than 100 million gallons of wastewater a day.
