Sheriff orders officer driving speed limit, seatbelt usage

Las Vegas police are ordering tougher standards for driving, including restricting officers from driving more than 20 mph over the speed limit except for vehicle pursuits.

Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie said at a news conference today that officers also will be required to wear their seatbelts in all situations except when they are driving slower than 15 mph and need to get out of their vehicle quickly.

These changes came after the death of three officers in accidents this year.
