Shooting in pharmacy parking lot leaves one dead

A fatal shooting at a CVS Pharmacy parking lot today left a man dead in a rolled-over car near Tenaya Way and Craig Road.

Witnesses told Las Vegas police that two men were parked side by side when a man in a junky orange car shot a man in a purple sedan about 1 p.m.

The victim, whose name has not been released, drove his car into a palm tree and the vehicle flipped over. He died at the scene.

The suspect sped away. Police were still searching for him late this afternoon. He was described as black, 20 to 25 years old, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, having shoulder-length dreadlocks and wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans.

Police suspect the shooting resulted from a dispute that arose during a drug deal.

Employees at nearby businesses say a man with dreadlocks and an old, orange car is a regular customer.

“He comes in here every day,” said Calvin Duncan, who works at a Rebel gas station across the street from the shooting. “He lives right across the street.”

Duncan pointed to some tan houses on Tenaya, saying the man often drives in and out of that neighborhood.

Duncan said he was emptying trash in a bin when he heard the car crash into the tree. He saw the orange car screech around the corner and head north on Tenaya.

Police strung yellow tape around the entire CVS parking lot and blocked traffic going west on Craig between Tenaya and U.S. Highway 95.

The scene was made more grisly by the victim’s body remaining partly visible in the upturned car while police waited for the coroner to arrive.

It drew a crowd of curious onlookers, some of them snapping pictures of the grim spectacle.
