Sierra snowpack off to another slow start
RENO -- Skiers and snowboarders are keeping their fingers crossed for snow as the Sierra snowpack is off to another slow start.
The Lake Tahoe Basin snowpack last week was only 2 percent of average. The situation is similar to last year, when the Tahoe Basin snowpack was only 1 percent of normal for early December.
But subsequent powerful storms, particularly in January, blanketed the Sierra.
Tahoe's snowpack ended at about 85 percent of average for the season, a second below-average year in a row.
The National Weather Service was calling for no chance of snow through Wednesday.
