Sleep-over camps are geared for teens, children
For many children and teens, summer camp is the place to make friends and memories that last a lifetime. Clark County Parks and Recreation recognizes that children need a summer filled with wonderful opportunities and active days of fun, exercise, discovery and adventure. The department also recognizes that today's parents face challenges finding safe and affordable environments for their children during the long summer months.
With this in mind, Clark County Parks and Recreation is offering two unique "sleep-over" camps this summer at Camp Lee, located on Mount Charleston. Both camps are one week long and feature traditional activities including archery, hiking, campfires, crafts, sing-a-longs and cabin skits.
Clark County's sleep-over camps are designed to fit the needs of two specific age groups: teens and children.
n On the Edge Camp, July 15-20, is for teens ages 13 to 15. This challenging outdoor adventure camp features such activities as a high-ropes course, mountain biking, hiking, a one-night tent camp out under the stars and a teen dance with a live DJ.
n Omni Discovery Camp, July 22-27 is for children ages 8 to 12. This nature camp features opportunities to explore, discover, experiment, investigate and create through hands-on classes in the arts, sciences and outdoor experiential education.
"More than 100 children and teens have already registered for Clark County's summer sleep-over camps this year," recreation specialist Colleen Duffy said.
But there are still some spaces available. Summer sleep-over camps cost $400 per child. The fee includes all meals, snacks, activities, activity instructors, staff supervision, supplies and the official camp T-shirt.
