Social Security checks missing

Social Security officials are trying to determine why as many as thousands of Nevada recipients haven't received their monthly checks.

Officials said checks were supposed to have been mailed last week and received April 3, but people are showing up at Social Security offices in Southern Nevada and Elko saying they never got them.

People who haven't received checks are asked to go to a Social Security office to fill out paperwork to get a monthly check. Officials say it will take at least 10 days to get a new check unless recipients are in dire need for something such as rent or medicine.

People also can call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213.
