Sparks woman pleads guilty to murder for killing mother

RENO -- A Sparks woman accused of hitting her 70-year-old mother in the head with a baseball bat and slitting her throat has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

The 49-year-old Catherine Eisley entered the plea Thursday in Washoe County District Court in the death of her mother, Cherry Clasen. Sentencing is set for Jan. 19.

Prosecutors say Eisley called her mother Nov. 3 to invite her to her house.

Eisley is accused of striking Clasen in the head with a bat she had hidden behind a door, cutting her throat and stabbing her several times.

Washoe County prosecutor Dan Greco tells the Reno Gazette-Journal that the plea wasn't part of a deal for a reduced sentence.

Eisley faces up to life in prison without parole.
