Spring Mountain Ranch State Park’s future rests in hands of the public

The future of Spring Mountain Ranch State Park in Red Rock Canyon is to be guided by public comments that officials receive at a meeting this month in Las Vegas.

Citing a 20-year-old master plan, the Nevada Division of State Parks will conduct a meeting July 25 to revisit the plan in light of increased population in the Las Vegas Valley.

The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the division's offices, 4747 W. Vegas Drive.

Before it became a park, the 600-acre ranch had a colorful string of owners including Chester "Chet" Lauck of the radio comedy team Lum and Abner, German actress Vera Krupp and billionaire Howard Hughes.
