Stabbing victim identified as Henderson man, age 46

The victim of a fatal stabbing in Henderson last week was identified by the Clark County coroner's office Tuesday.

Roy Butanda, 46, was stabbed to death June 30 by David J. Garcia, 34, Henderson police said.

Garcia was arrested and booked at the Henderson Detention Center on murder charges the day of the slaying.

Butanda is believed to be Garcia's uncle, police said. His body was found near his home in the 100 block of Copper Street, near Atlantic Avenue, where both men lived.

Police said Garcia stabbed Butanda after a fight over a cell phone. When he was arrested, Garcia told police he had acted in self-defense
