CARSON CITY -- The state Transportation Board has authorized the Nevada Department of Transportation to embark on a $900 million highway construction program for 2011.

About half, or $447 million, of the road construction, will take place in Clark County, which has more than 70 percent of the Nevada population, under the decision made unanimously Tuesday by the Transportation Board.

Washoe County, the state's second-largest county, received $210 million. Three of the seven members of the board are from Southern Nevada.

Key projects approved for Clark County include:

■ $35 million for construction of the first phase of U.S. HIghway 93 Boulder City bypass.

■ $31 million for constructing a six-lane roadway along Cactus Avenue from Silverado Ranch Road to Sunset Road and an Interstate 15 interchange at Cactus Avenue.
