State’s first bear hunting season hits halfway point
RENO -- Nevada's bear hunting season is halfway to its cutoff point after officials announced 10 animals have been killed.
Nevada Department of Wildlife officials said one female and one male bear were killed earlier this week.
Wildlife commissioners voted in September to make the state's first bear hunting season an annual event. The hunt was limited to 20 bears or six females. Hunters have killed four females.
Officials say hunting activity seems to be increasing because of cooler weather.
The state Wildlife Commission will review the season annually and may change the number of bears that can be killed in a single year.
