Suicide rate for Clark County teens, children up fourfold
Officials say suicides among Clark County children and teens were up fourfold in 2011 compared with a few years earlier.
A report from the Nevada Institute for Children's Research and Policy shows 16 suicide deaths last year, up from four each in 2008 and 2009, and seven in 2010.
Authors of the report call for more suicide prevention efforts in elementary schools and expanded gun safety campaigns.
The report on child deaths is produced annually by the institute based at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Of the 237 child deaths in 2011, researchers counted 19 homicides and 37 accidental deaths.
