Summer sessions for teachers will focus on Mark Twain

Teachers from around the country will have a chance this summer to learn more about Mark Twain as part of a special summer workshop.

The Hartford, Conn.-based Mark Twain House and Museum recently won a $156,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to offer the program. Three-week sessions will take place in July in Hartford and in Virginia City, Nev.

The program's focus is to help teachers learn more through Twain's writings about his attitudes toward the Gilded Age's culture of progress.

Twain and his family lived in Hartford from 1874 to 1891. He wrote some of his most important works during that time, including "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court."
