Suspect agrees to be extradited

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- The man who has admitted killing a former Olympian in Las Vegas has waived extradition in northwest Arizona to return to Nevada to face prosecution.

Roger Randolph, 26, told Mohave County Superior Court Commissioner Lee Jantzen on Friday that he is willing to be transported to Las Vegas to face a homicide charge in the Monday shooting death of Rhoshii Wells, 31, a bronze medal boxer for Team USA in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

"I want to go back to defend myself," Randolph told Jantzen. "It was self-defense."

Randolph acknowledged in an interview Thursday inside the Mohave County jail in Kingman that he shot Wells. He said Wells punched him in the eye and stole $100 before the shooting.

Randolph said he shot Wells during a subsequent encounter in which the Olympic medallist repeatedly threatened his life.

Witness statements detailed in a Clark County fugitive warrant, however, indicated that Randolph was the aggressor in the deadly encounter at an apartment complex at 531 N. Nellis Blvd., near Bonanza Road.

Randolph will be jailed without bond in Arizona until he is transported to Las Vegas.
