Suspect arrested in LV for California burglaries

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Orange County investigators say a felon sought for million-dollar Newport Beach burglaries has been arrested in Las Vegas.

Richard William Abbott was arrested late Wednesday after trying to outrun Las Vegas police in his Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Newport Beach police Sgt. Steve Burdette says the Mustang broke down.

Records showed Friday that the 45-year-old Abbott is in Clark County jail for felony evading a police officer and drug possession. An extradition hearing is scheduled Monday.

Abbott is believed responsible for at least three burglaries netting more than $1.2 million worth of valuables in affluent residential areas.

Sgt. Evan Sailor says DNA linked Abbott to at least one of the crimes.
