Las Vegas police on Saturday arrested a suspect accused of stabbing a woman at least 20 times inside her home early Friday morning.
Kelvin Patton, 34, is facing several charges, including attempted murder and battery with substantial bodily harm in connection with the 5 a.m. attack.
The suspect broke into the home at 4775 Pioneer Ave., near Spring Mountain Road and Decatur Boulevard, according to Patton's arrest report. Four women shared the home, including 34-year-old Tasha Warlick, with whom Patton has a son.
Warlick and her 6-month-old son were not home that morning. The 34-year-old victim was in bed when Patton confronted her about Warlick's whereabouts. When the victim said Warlick wasn't home, Patton began punching and stabbing her, she told detectives.
Another woman who was home heard the attack and saw Patton but did not report it to police because she said she was scared, according to the report.
The victim was hospitalized with between 20 and 36 stab wounds including lacerations to her heart and intestines, according to the report. She was in critical condition, according to the report, but was able to speak with detectives.
When detectives interviewed him, Patton denied any involvement in the crime. Police noted in the report that Patton failed a polygraph test.
